Oops - you fired the boss! |
| |
| I was paying bills last night, sitting in front of the TV, and R had it on a new show, "Undercover Boss". The president of Waste Management went undercover for one week, pretended to be a new hire and did various jobs at different company locations around the country. He worked at a landfill, he cleaned porta pottys, he drove a garbage truck, he picked up litter, etc. He discovered that many company policies were actually keeping people from doing their jobs well, hurting morale, and, in some cases, were actually contrary to company policy (probably illegal too). Seriously, if more senior management people actually got down there and did the jobs that the workers do, what might they learn that would help the company, help the workers and help themselves be better managers? The best moment for me was when he was working with a guy who had medical problems and they were out picking up trash from a hillside. It was windy and he just couldn't keep up. The guy he was working with told him that he didn't cut it and ended up firing him. Now wouldn't you just love to fire the top guy at the company you work at? Priceless... | | | | | |

| | I watched that show too, it was great! I was thinking to myself how proud those employees must be to work for a company where the president cares enough to go out and do that! I wish more companies did that, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this show. I saw previews for next week's show, it will be about Hooter's. Well I'm no fan of that place at all, I think it's completely degrading to women. Thankfully we no longer have a Hooter's in our area, but when we did I wouldn't even drive near it if I had the kids in the car. What sort of message is that restaurant sending our kids? That it's okay for women to dress like tramps? Just disgusting if you ask me. | | | | | | |

| | I hope he goes back and does the same thing again from time to time, so that he doesn't lose touch. As for Hooters, yech. Did you see those clips where the manager was having the women eat a plate of beans with their mouth only in exchange for being allowed to leave work early? Disgusting and a blatant abuse of power. Hope he gets his a** canned. | | | |

| | If I'd been one of those girls, I would have walked out. No job in the world is worth my self respect! The only reason I want to watch that episode is because I want to see what he does about that situation, and how he reacts to the feedback he got on the streets. | | | |

| | No kidding. Absolutely gross what that guy was doing. But they were being filmed. Did he know they were, I wonder? I can't imagine him having the chutzpah to do that knowing it was on film. | | | |

| | He had to have known... it's not easy to hide those guys carrying around giant cameras. On last night's show the guy said he was doing a documentary about entry level positions.. I'm sure they came up with an equally genius excuse for the cameras following the Hooter's guy. I don't know, maybe the idiot thought he looked cool or something. | | | |

| | hi dawnald that sounds like a great new show. Talking about fire the top guy at the company I worked for, I had asked for leave for twelve days to have some surgery done, Instead she said,oh this is so hard , the hardest think I ever had to do, but I have to let you go , you are oneof my best workers, but you are almost eighty, you will not be able to keep up, blah blah, but the whole gist of this was that the second in command,a skinny caustic tongued baitch just did not like to see an elderly woman shelving books and media in the library. she had gone to emily my bossand told her fire her or I quit, well since she was a new hire, Emily chose the easy way out she did fire me. I wrote a protest to the Orange county library headquarters and told them I was fired because of my age, no other reason. While I was waiting for tests for my surgery I got a letter from headquarters telling me they had fired both Emily and the second in command for firing me due to age discrimination. they wanted me back. but the next day I had a bad fall, resulting in a smashed pulverized shoulder so I had to have surgery and a bionic shoulder joint and an almost useless left arm. | | | | | | |

| | I caught the show and loved it. It will definitley be on my must watch list weekly. I thought there was a great lesson to be learned from those in upper management positions that may not have ever gotten a chance to see the nuts and bolts of the company they run from the top. I think this show will be a huge success mainly because it portrays real companies that we are all familiar with. The people were sincerely shocked to find out who it was that was really working amongst them and some were even emotional to the fact that he would take the time to even do what he did by going undercover within the company. As far as the upcoming show about the show hooters. I actually am probably in the minority in saying this because I am a woman but I am a huge fan of hooters and LOVE their wings. The atmosphere there is always relaxed, they always have the game on and the girls seem to enjoy their jobs. As far as the clip with the manager making the girls do things to leave early appauls and disgusts me! I really want to see the end result of that one because in no way do I think it is okay to behave this way in the workplace! But I am glad that this kind of behavior is being exposed so hopefully someone in upper management will put a stop to it! | | | | | | |

| | I saw this show last week, I guess it was a repeat last night. The boss at the Wastemanagement firm was great. I was so happy to see that he had compassion for his workers. That he found faults on the job that he was willing to fix and that he was able to reward certain employees with a raise and change of titles. I agree if only more bosses would step into the shoes of their employees maybe, just maybe people will start to love to go to work because they will see that the big bosses have respect and compassion for their employees. When you go to work day in and day out without a bit of loyality from the big wigs you feel worthless and you grow to hate the job. | | | | | | |

| | Yeah nothing like being expected to give your all and show loyalty when you're getting none in return to totally ruin morale. More bosses ought to do this! | | | |

| | I think it is wonderful that he was getting out there and doing things that his employees have to do. He is a mighty big man to admit that some of the policies were actually interfering with how employees were able to work. I can think of some bosses I have known that should have done the same. | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, for sure. I have more frustration when they change some policy and it makes it harder to do my job and when I argue my case, I get shot down for (imho) absolutely no good reason. | | | |
