Have you any family in the Michigan area? I know that I have cousins there. I was in contact with one of them when I was in my teens but then we stopped writing.

If I were you, I would burn all the evidence that might even remotely implicate me as being British, deny any knowledge of such an atrocity, and threaten to sue for slander anyone that said otherwise.

Being born in England myself and spending most of my life in the US. Go ahead and use your americanized english. We all do. I live in the south and have quite a southern accent. My mother on the other hand still holds onto her british accent. I guess since she talks to her family at least once a week. Just make sure if you start to use proper english, you know what the translations mean in our americanized version. Would not want you saying the wrong thing to someone and getting in trouble.

By that logic, I should start writing in 1/4 Russian or Yiddish, 1/4 Polish, 1/8 proper British (or maybe that ancestor had some dreadful dialect) and all the rest German. And Dawn don't know no Polish, :-(

But isn't genealogy cool? I've gotten a bunch of information on my mom's relatives on one side. They come from a part of Germany this is now Poland. And I've been able to go online and see what some of those places look like now. On my Dad's side, my Aunt has a lot of information, but she hasn't gotten around to sharing it yet...

That is a Karmic bite, if you believe in Karma. My mom spent a lot of years looking down on one particular racial heritage, and how this and that, and "green" and "ignorant" and "abusive" they were as a race. Actually come to think of it, a couple of ethnic heritages. She knew that we were heavily of the one race, but not the other, on my dad's side. WELL my dad handed me a letter that was written in my great great grandfather's hand telling his heritage, and guess what, we are that other race as well. I join you in my relationship to the British Isles. In fact, I now have documentation that I am related to all parts of Great Britain, except the Cornishmen. By the way, what I have always read about this particular group of people is that they are musical, artistic, poetic and mystic. I am proud to find that I am Welsh as well as Scots, Irish, English, German, French, Swedish, Black Dutch, and Native American (Choctaw) and Jewish. I think I join Irish Friendly in being all mixed up.
