INternet on a cell phone... are you serious? |
| |
| I pretty much hate cell phones, but have one as my daughter insists I have one for emergencies since I have her child often. But I recently (longstory) got a new phone that comes with 2 months free internet access. Stupid, I thought. But always trying to learn the new things, move into the 21st Century, last night I tried the internet on my cell phone. What part of stupid did I forget!!! It is so stupid! Trying to read an email on that tiny little screen, and scroll down constantly as a 2 inch screen doesn't allow for to many words at once, tiny little letters, and just a major pain in the back side to do! I answered several of my posts here at MyLot and thought, good grief, I could have answered all these and posted a dozen others in the time it took to answer 3 posts. IT was so stupid. Did I mention how stupid it was? So, I don't understand why people do internet on cell phones. Also, playing games on it... that screen is so small, things on there are smaller and slap me silly and call me stupid, but where in the world is the fun of it when you have to work so hard just to see it!!! | | | | | |

| | Cellular phones are in-demand here in the Philippines. I think everyone here now has a CP, even kids got one now. My Nokia 5320 XpressMusic has an internet access. It's free! I think it's cool! Cause when I'm out of town, I can always check on my e-mails and other networking sites without going to net cafes and without even spending money. Try getting bigger phones if you're having a hard time reading small letters for your convenience.. Have a good day! =) | | | | | | |

| | I got a Pantech IMpact - opens up and full keyboard and larger keys that don't stick. But still....I'd rather just wait till I get on the PC to read my email than go through that again! I guess great if it is all you have to get connected with. I dont' think I'd bother at all! | | | |

| | I can understand something like and iPod or iPad, or netbook, or even an iPhone since they are larger and of better quality, but not the internet on a typical cellphone. I am not into texting and such, and I only ever send the odd e-mail from my phone to let me husband know I'm going to be late (if I know he's doing something and don't want to interrupt him to come to the phone), but not usually. I have a phone for emergencies and phone calls. That's it! | | | | | | |

| | That's me exactly. I dont' like cell phones and text messaging either unless just a quick note or one word answer. But these conversations back and forth - we could have talked on the phone and been done with it in a whole lot less time than it takes to text back and forth. My daughter gets angry at me for not texting her, but one sentence can often not be answered with one text back.. it requires more info and more texting back and forth. To much work, to much time wasted! Just call me! | | | |

| | Hi coffeebreak!^^ It's been a while. I used to surf the internet using my cellphone when I was still a cellphone addict. But I rarely checked my emails in my cellphone because just like what you described, it's too time-consuming to do it especially when your cellphone screen is small. I only used to download songs and pictures and chat using my cellphone before. I have never used it to myLot. I used to have a pocketpc that also functioned as a cellphone and that I used before in myLotting because it's like a palmtop. I never use my cellphone now in surfing the net because it's kind of a bother and I prefer to use the desktop or a laptop now. I would use my pocketpc to surf the net while I'm on travel but it's broken now. But I think nowadays, there are lots of high-tech cellphones with a bigger screen, and some are touch screen, where internet surfing is okay too. A lot of people here are using cellphones like that and places with free wi-fi access are usually full of people with cellphones like these. There's the Starbucks, Mcdo, and other places where you can just order a coffee or a french fries and eat it for over an hour just to be able to use the free wifi.^^;; | | | | | | |

| | I've seen those touch screens where you just pull your finger around to make the screen change. But that is more than I need or even want to deal with so I just got a regular one...full keyboard and a open up kind, but the screen is still small. I looked at many under my carrier, and the screens were all the same size.. This one has a little bigger letter size and the screen is a bit bitter if you use it opened up (you can use it both ways) but still... not big enough to do that much reading and typing and all. Yeah, WiFI is getting popular at alot of places these days. | | | |

| | Touch screen is too much for me too. But I would like a bigger screen so I can view pictures better.^^ There's this cellphone I've been eyeing for a little while now. It's a flip phone and it has a wider screen than my current cellphone. It's not that high-tech too, just a regular cellphone only it's a flip phone. I used to want cellphones that are high tech but since I'm not a cellphone addict anymore, I'm okay with simple ones. But the cellphone I like is not available here in our country so I'm kinda sad about it. | | | |

| | I know. That is a problem too.. the pictures are so small you can't hardly see what they are! My daughter takes them and my son to and show me and I'm like "who/what is it? Where are they?" They are so small I don't get any enjoyment of seeing the pictures. Then what a complicated mess to get them off your cell phone and onto PC so you can have athem printed out! | | | |

| | I don't have a problem in transferring the pictures to my computer but there are pictures that I want to keep in my cellphone so I can view them whenever I want, wherever I am.^^ And also, it's good to have a larger screen so you can better appreciate your cellphone wallpaper.^^ | | | |

| | I guess if you just use it for "minor" information, like just a score or something short and sweet it wouldn't be so bad, but good grief...I see people just sitting there for the longest time just tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap. Drives me nuts!!! Guess I just can't move into the 21st Century on this one! | | | |

| | It helps if you know what you are doing, though, and also you have to have a really good phone or it is, as you say hopeless. Regular webpages do not work well on most phones, but there are applications that are specially formatted just for cell phone users. Yes, I am serious. I have had an unlimited data plan on my smart phone for several years. It is not a substitute for having a computer, but when I need to access information, from anywhere, then the information is there. The font I use is pretty readable and my color screen has excellent resolution. Mainly I use it to look up stuff in my web-based relational database. There I keep serial numbers, phone numbers, addresses, encrypted passwords, and much more. Before I bought a Garmin Nuvi, I also used my cell phone for GPS. That I admit was a bit frustrating on a 2" screen, but still better than being lost out somewhere in the dark night. I call e-mail photos to publish on my blog and send tasks to my online calendar and scheduling service. I use the cellphone's internet access to record all of my expenditures in real-time in order to keep my budget balanced at all times. Before I used a PDA to do that, but then had to reconcile it on the computer every night when I got home. I agree with you about the games though. | | | | | | |

| | Sounds like it works for you. It is just that it is all so small. I use a green ledger page for all my money transactions and things like that! I am still in the 20th century ont hat one and it hasn't failed me yet, so I think I will just stay there! Thing is.. you literally have your life in your hands... what if you loose that phone? Even if you have a back up somewhere (how many think/remember to back up their cell phones?) now someone else has your life in their hands. That is just to scary for me. | | | |

| | The data does not live in the phone! The data lives in a secure location on the internet. About all somebody who pried my prized smart phone out of my cold dead hands would get would be my speed dial list -- phone numbers for the police and animal control in 2 states and 3 counties. Hah! There is nothing to back up or synchronize. Those days are over. There are two reasons the green ledger pad would not work for me: 1) I would have to carry it back and forth from one home to the other and also drag it along on every vacation or business trip. What if I left it behind somewhere or it got stolen? 2) A digital file is searchable, meaning I do not have to read the whole document to find the one figure I need. So if I need to know how much I paid for my hotel room in September, I just type in "Crowne Plaza" and my smart phone pulls up the amount for me. I guess that is why they call it a smart phone :-) No, smart phones are not for everyone, but people who rely on them are not necessarily stupid. | | | |

| | LMAO!! I'm with you! Depending on the phone, not only is the screen tiny but the resolution and clarity aren't always that great. I have only used it on mine a few times. Like to check a movie time or the exact address of a place. Other than that, I can't imagine myself doing much more! Be Well!! Thanks alot for the chuckle! | | | | | | |

| | And there is so much on a blog page or web site..how can all that fit onto a 2inch screen?!! It can't!!! Other than calls and text msg and an occassional photo (those to are so small you can't see what's going on in the picture) the only other thing I have used my cell phone for was an alarm clock (the new one has a really crappy one I can't use but the old one was perfect!) and to get 411 info on that free system 45562 or something like that. And you are welcome! If we don't laugh at these silly things, what are we going to laugh at! | | | |

| | yes maybe it like it is. technological developments have further advanced and cannot be simply left behind. maybe this time you use a cell phone with a small screen. but how about tomorrow? month? or next year? can you imagine what technology will be created next? i even thought the PC technology will be left in the next century. because it is more and more smart phone which is created with operating system in it. even had use RAM Memory in such a small machine. isnt that a cool thing? | | | | | | |

| | Most definately. "Hand held" is here to stay and will only get more abundant and versitile. And to the point that you either deal with it or loose. I remember when "cell" phones came out.. they were large!!! Weighed 2 pounds! And no screen! But at least you could see the numbers to push. I get the point of small and portable, but how small is to small? GOing to get to the point where vision is damaged in people cause they are looking/squinting at small screen all the time. MOral of the story... if you are looking for a good job for the future with steady income.... become an opthomologist or optomitrist! | | | |

| | In So Calif pay phones are few and far between and I have even heard they only use debit or ATM cards... not coins! Can you imagen!!! I can remember carrying a dime in my sock all the time for a pay phone emergency!!! But even when you can find one.. they are out of order, damaged or so gross that I'd rather keep walking to the next one. My daughter put me on her family plan for 10 bucks and we share prime time minutes she has for free (I never use them.. I have a home phone that can handle all that, but I only use the cell minutes for emergency or child issues as I care for her child) and then free nights and weekends. But with land lines having free long distance these days...I can use that at home too. I carry the stupid little thing for emergencies, but thats it. I lay it on my night stand at night and it lays there all day! | | | |

| | It's not that a cell doesn't provide convenience and necessity, but it is so over used it is ridiculous. What happened to watching the news on tv at home after dinner? I know people are so buzy these days, that having it in their hands is a good thought, but on such a small screen ... and let's not forget reception... I am in the city and text msg can sometimes even get held up from being sent, but I loose reception all the time.. and the batteries.. ever watch a movie or show and in the emergency they all have cell phones.. yet all have dead batteries or out of service area or no signal at all.... so much for emergency useage! | | | |
