Update on my son |
| |
| As most of you know, my son has Cerebral Palsy and is a wheelchair. He had scoliosis surgery, put rods in his back, in March and ended up with an infection. They had to do two more surgeries in April to clean the wound and take out his Baclofen pump, which he had to relieve muscle spasms and tightness in his legs We went to the doctor yesterday, they did x-rays, and think that his back is fused up. They said that it is the fastest recovery they have seen. They are ready to take the rods out. They are going to do a Cat scan first and make sure it is all fused good before doing so. They are going to try to set it up the same day we go for Botox injections in his legs, which is something they are trying, to relieve the spasms and tightness in his legs. I am so nervous. I am kind of excited. I am so ready to get him off of antibiotics. It has been a very long road. Please keep us in your prayers. | | | | | |

| | hi Thoroughrob, thats a lot on your plate and I am amazed reading about how well things have turned out so far. I have to admit I am no person of prayer cause my prayers end up at the ceiling so I cant promise you to pray for your son and you but you are in my thoughts. Hope thats good enough for you. | | | | | | |

| | That is great thank you. We really thought we might lose him back in April. It has been pretty scary. | | | |

| | I always have kind of a bad conscience when I admit I am no person of prayer but I am glad you obviously are not mad at me for this. | | | |

| | Why would anyone be mad? At least you are honest in stead of promising to pray and then not sticking to the promise. Wouldn't that be worse? I too will keep you and your family in my thoughts, Thoroughrob. One of my best friends has cerebral palsy, and the doctors told her parents that she would be lucky to live through her first birthday. She went through multiple surgeries and has a shunt that drains the excess liquid from her brain to her stomach. She's now 22 years old and has a family of her own. My point is that miracles happen everyday, and as long as you don't give up hope then your son is very lucky to have you. Good luck with everything and just remember to breathe and take things one day at a time. | | | |

| | I am delighted that your son has made a fast recovery from the operations he had had. I hope that the doctors will be able to help relieve the spasms in his legs. I will keep him in my prayers. I know a little boy with cerebral palsy and he is in a wheelchair. He left my son's special needs playgroup and now goes to a school for disabled children. My son is 28 months old. He has spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He is unable to walk. At the moment he crawls around and in the future he will get a wheelchair. He has a shunt fitted inside his head. | | | | | | |

| | My son is in public school. He is now 15 years old. We have been through it, but it is an experience I would never give up. If you need support or just want to talk, let me know. It does get overwhelming at times, but it is so rewarding as you see the changes they make. | | | |

| | You and he have been to h3ll and back ....Will removing the rods allow him to move better. Will that help with the leg cramps?Or are they a result of the CP? The poor baby, if he were mine I guess I would just hug him all of the time, life just isn't fair. Please keep us informed....I feel so bad for you all. | | | | | | |

| | No, it will not allow him to move better, but we can clear up the infection once all the hardware is out, and then we can consider putting the baclofen pump back in. To me right now, there isn't a question of whether we will or won't, but I will wait until the doctors give us all the ups and downs, before really deciding. It will still be months before we would be able to. I am just thankful that we still have him. We did the original surgery because they told us within 6 months his organs would be affected and he would start going downhill and it would be a long and painful death. We did not feel we could just do nothing and going in we knew we had a 75% chance of infection. We have a great doctor that has been upfront and not afraid to spend time with us and answer questions. | | | |
