Family members who love to "show off"...  

yea there's a branch of my mom's family that are all like that-snots.the one was crying to us she lost her second house in one of the florida storms.
i was having a hard time giving her sympathy,when we're still paying off a first house.

Yes I have a cousin like this. Everytime I talk to her she says that she just got back from this country or that country. She always has the best clothes, a nice car, & goes out to eat in the best restaurants. Naturally we don't talk that much.

Hello let me thank you for sharing this story. I like your habits, we must try to live frugally, no show off, no miser. Your cousins are fools, this process if continued will end up in nothing-they may have to run here and there. Secondly, never think that they are doing this to show you, remember when an elephant walks, dogs bark at him. Be happy my friend. Cheers.

yes we do have such family members who wud just go on and on...u know wt i love to do to them...i give a cold shoulder and care to hoots attitude with a simple Good For u I M Not Intrested attitude...that puts most of them in place and they know no nonsense here...it does not bother me really...At my cousins wedding reception one of my uncles commented "my dinner parties are grander than and better than this"...belive me it was a grt reception party...i just told him tht is not true bcoz u did not book such a big banquet, u did not have live band and dJ, and the food was not this amazing either and the lightings were very ordinary..so how can ur party b better..he does not spk to me till date doesnt bother me though...hehe...b mean with mean people

To be honest with you, I am not comfortable to be with people who are show off specially if they are my relatives. I will be embarrass to claim to people that we are related.. lol.
because showing off to people of what you have is not admirable. Just be ourselves. If we can afford to buy what we want? it doesn't need to be advertise to neighbors and to all people around that we have it? Just let them discover for themselves. Well, what I would have to do is to stay aways from them. If what they did will make me upset, then I will go away with them. I don;t mind what they are doing so that I will not be affected.

I know what you mean,I hate people who feel that they have to show off all the time,and there are parts of my moms side of the family that feel that they have to show off every time we have a family get together.

my eldest brother was the one who loves to show off in our family. he thinks that he knows all the things and he also loves being bossy and i hate it. he never respects his siblings but he wants to get respect from us lol he's really crazy and i mean it. i also hate the way he treats us

hi rogue. that's a pretty annoying situation. annoying family members. i'm lucky i don't have relatives like that. because i just hate show offs. they get into my nerves. if i have relatives like that i would probably be aloof to them but still civil. i mean, what do they gain from showing off right? and the sad thing is, they are showing off to their own relatives to whom they actually should be sensitive. you know what i think? these show off people has.. what do you call that attention deficiency syndrome. ADHD or something like that.

i can just relay on this topic. i have a lot of relatives who are like that. and whats painful is they only invite us on a gathering just to show off. so sometimes i rather stay home than to deal and hear them boasting about something. one of my cosuin just celebrated her 18th birthday. here in our country celebrating a lady's 18th birthday is something special. it is like the 16th birthday of the ladies in your country. so my cousin celebrated her 18th birthday at a 5 star hotel and we are not invited. when i saw him in a mall he said the reason why we are not invited is he does not want us to be bothered to rent a suit for the occassion. i just hate relatives who do that.

Not just family members but even in my workplace I see this happening all the time. I don't really have lots of relatives that are acting like this; perhaps one or two only. And I just stay away from them practically because they give off bad vibes.

However, there are loads of people thinking that the people that they show off to, the people would crumble and be jealous. But usually, people aren't jealous at all but the show-offs got into thinking that they can show off materialistically in one way or another and acting that they are not having the first class notion. And sort of irritates. I respect someone whom is a high class and self-declaring, rather than someone just pretending to be humble but showing off deep inside.

There are lots of twisted minds, it's just so sad. Luckily not all of my family members are like this and I'm thankful for that. There are only some bad apples only, rather than all. Good discussion here.
