bottled water: the enemy |
| |
| You know bottled water is bad, but are you doing enough to stop it? Bottled water isn’t a new gripe of the environmental movement. Most of you probably don’t buy bottled water (and if you do, stop!) but what do you do when your kid’s school or soccer team is handing out bottled water? What about [...] | | view full article | | | |

| I've also come to the conclusion that bottled water is rather wasteful, but this article wouldn't have convinced me of anything. "Oppose the privatization of water"?! THAT's the argument! "Public water" isn't free. It isn't even always safe -- that's why filters are a good thing to have and a good alternative to bottled water. I was shocked that the blogger wants even people whose public water systems are an utter failure to continue to drink unsafe water while those problems with the public system get worked out (if they ever get worked out) rather than drink bottled water.

| True bottled water having the ions and they are exposed to UV rays which is harmful to health. Instead of bottled water we should preserve underground water which makes the drinking purpose fullfill in future and also in the present.

| When I was in school I learned about hygiene, and underground water if not treated, caused a lot of diseases, like typhoid, dysentry, diarrhea and so on. This happens in many rural areas where well-water are located in areas of contamination through seeping human waste, and environmental hazards. Therefore, clean and hygienic underground water is only a good alternative to bottled water, if only we are given alternative bottles that don't leach. Provided the underground- water is clear of possible infectious bacteria, parasite and contaminants, we should go for more research into piping natural water into our homes, thereafter filter them with home-fixed approved filters. As the population grows, natural water from clear mountain streams are becoming a rare sight. So, it is still a good idea to go for stored, filtered water from underground. To contain them in bottle, the use of glass bottles or any other types that do not leach its contents, seem a better alternative to plastic containers. | | | |

| Yes it is true now a days it is difficult to find fresh water to drink also the underground water. But in my place it is not like that. Mostly in cities the underground water is no good to consume without treating it by any means. But in rural areas and in villages it is present that the natural water from underground is used mostly and also it is pure and fresh. | | | |

| The fact that WE as a nation would rather go to the supermarket, grocery store or BJ's/Sam's clubs and purchase "Water" every two weeks of each month at $4.99/32-8oz.bottles than buying a purifier for 16.99 that last 6/mos?! Six months of bottled water cost U & I [$4.99x12=$59.88] for JUST HALF THE YEAR w/o tax. When the to replace cost only another $16.99 and can as much or as little of as you want w/o having to buy more "PLASTIC BOTTLES" that hurt the environment. Sounds like a better plan to me! My wife an I argue from time to time about HER MUST HAVE BOTTLED WATER when WE are paying off a $7500.00 dollars bill for a water purification system for the ENTIRE HOUSE! Yet she still insist on buying water for herself. Can U say, DDAAAHHHH!

| Bottled water had been store for a duration of time before retailing in the market. During this period of time, the plastic bottle may emit toxin therefore, water in the bottle is contaminated. Best solution is buy a portable pitcher to filter the tap water and a food grade plastic bottle to contain the water and bring it with you where ever you go. You may even use recycle glass bottle to contain the water to save some cost too.

| Thanks for the information. You made a nice and informative article. I heard about this already. Yes right, plastics are not good containers for water as it can be one of the causes of cancer especially if used many times or been exposed from the heat of the sun. But I think you know you can't really avoid the use of bottle water, that's the reality. And not all people can find a place where there are fountains, though awareness can really help. Plastic containers have instructions/notice at the bottom of the bottle telling you how many it can be possibly reused. But I've been taught, it isn't necessary if the bottle has been exposed from the heat of the sun. And my aunt had mentioned about the water bottle made of corn. She said it is developed in the U.S. We weren't able to talk about it, but i guess she said, it is safer than the bottle made of plastic. I'm not living in U.S., it's just my aunt and I don't have any idea about it. By any chance anyone of you know about this bottle made of corn something, then share it to us. Thanks!
